Renovating/Repairing your Key Fob Housing
If your remote is working but the rubber buttons have perished or the casing is otherwise damaged (see here first), a new housing will make it new again, quite cheaply. Peugeot do supply replacement housings for some models but not necessarily all. The details below show how to change a Peugeot 306 (MkI/Phase1) remote housing. The Phase 2 infra-red keyfobs look the same but are slightly thicker, housing a transponder chip inside the casing.
The cost for this housing is around £5 from your main Peugeot Dealer. The Peugeot Part Number is: A5025
First open up your old remote control. Remove the small philips head screw. This screw not only helps secure the housing but also the metal key into the housing. The metal key can be simply pulled out.
Twist a wide bladed screwdriver (or thin coin) at the top end to prise the the casing apart.

The circuit board sits in one half of the housing. To remove it from the housing you need to pull back the retaining lug slightly and prise the circuit up and out. Take electrostatic precautions before you handle any electronic circuit - i.e. earth yourself on something like a metal pipe or metal computer casing.
Now reassemble the circuit board and metal key into the new housing and secure back together in the reverse order. Ensure that you replace the screw, eventhough the housing closes very firmly without it, the screw locks the metal key into the housing, without it the key will simply slide out. Voila - one remote control key fob as new!
