Lost/Need Your Car Stereo Code?

A very common problem amongst car owners. When a battery goes flat or is disconnected for servicing, many car stereos require a code to work again.
This is what you need to do first:
- check all your documentation with the car. The original code is normally supplied on a small card (credit card sized). If the card cannot be located check the Service manual and the Information Handbook. Look for any 4 digit codes that may have been jotted down.
- Contact the previous owner of the vehicle if possible.
- Call the original supplying dealer of the car, when new. Most Peugeot and other dealers have a computer database which they hold this information on for a certain period of time. They will normally supply the information free of charge straight over the phone. Make sure you have your log book (V5) handy in case they require any details from you.
If you do get hold of the code, DO NOT just start entering it willy nilly - check the Car Stereo handbook for the correct method of entry. Different models have different formats. If you incorrectly enter the code the stereo may lock out for a certain period of time before you can make another attempt.
If all attempts fail to get the code there are numerous companies out there that can supply or decode your car stereo for you. See Below and Above.
